Gray's Valvoline/Nova Services Chevrolet Camaro was the quickest in two of the four timed Pro Stock sessions, which equates to six bonus points in the Mello Yello standings. "They reset the points for the start of the Countdown and all of us in the top 10 by just 10 points each, so to make up six points in qualifying is very encouraging," Gray said. "We got ourselves a race car, and with this being our home track we're feeling very comfortable being here and running our Chevy down this strip. "There's no question being at home and sleeping in your own bed every night is an advantage. We're doubly blessed here because we have two national events in Charlotte every year, so we'll take it and run. We're very excited right now." Gray Motorsports is located in nearby Mooresville and Gray and his family live on Lake Norman. All of his crewmembers and engine builders also live in the greater Charlotte area. "Don't discount the fact it's the start of the playoffs, and we're all anxious to show our friends and family what we do," Gray said. "You always want to do well when those that are closest to you are with you in the pits and rooting for you up in the stands. That's the situation we're in here, and we are trying our best to show them something good. "It's also Jep's (Trammell, crewman) birthday, so we figured the best present would be to get him a Wally trophy. It's the one thing that costs a lot but you can't buy." Gray's best pass of 6.593 at 210.18 mph placed him fourth overall in a fairly quick field of 16 racers. As the No. 4 qualifier, he'll enjoy lane choice over first-round opponent John Gaydosh, who is a tenth of a second back in 13th place with a run of 6.699 at 206.83 mph. "Lane choice might come into play but this track seems to be prepared really well," Gray said. "Usually this time of the year, all these races are won and lost at the starting line, so even though it looks like we have a little edge over John, anything can happen. I need to be ready to go and I know the guys will have the car set up to kill." Pro Stock eliminations start at 1 p.m., Sunday. FOX Sports 1 will broadcast all the elimination action from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., Sunday. (All times listed in ET).
