The 3rd annual "George Snider Classic" will take place on Sunday afternoon, October 9th, featuring the fastest cars to ever compete on the west Bakersfield high-banked half-mile oval. "Of all the race cars that compete at Kern County Raceway, there are none that fill your veins with adrenalin more than the King of the Wing Sprint Cars" stated Steve Hughes of Kern County Raceway. "JoJo Helberg set the all-time track record at KCRP at 14.29 seconds for one lap. That's so fast it doesn't even seem possible." Originally scheduled for October 2nd, the October 9th event is the final race of the "2016 Royal Purple King of the Wing National Sprint Car Series". The eleven race national championship has taken its drivers from Florida, to Alabama, Ohio, Indiana, Washington state and will now close out its 2016 season with two stops in California; Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday, October 8th and Sunday afternoon, October 9th at Kern County Raceway. The race will honor Indianapolis 500 legend George "Ziggy" Snider of Bakersfield, who made 22 starts at 'The 500' driving for legendary car owner and longtime friend, A.J. Foyt. "We're honored to name the Kern County event after George," stated the founder of the King of the Wing series, Davey Hamilton. "Ziggy (Snider's nickname) has always been a hero of mine and became legendary with Indy fans for his ability to jump in an unknown car in the final hours of qualifying and make the race (Indy 500)." The October 9th event will feature heat races and a 40 lap King of the Wing main event, plus NASCAR Super Stocks, the INEX Legends and the 911 Racing Series. Spectator gates open at 2 p.m., King of the Wing practice at 2:15p.m., Driver's Autograph Session at 3:30p.m., King of the Wing single car qualifying at 4:10p.m., with racing at 5p.m. Tickets for the King of the Wing event are just $15 for Adults, $10 for Seniors 65+, Active Military, Children 6-15, and Children 5 and under are free! A Family Pass for two adults and two seniors or children is $35 (Box office only). Reserved stadium seats are $20. Trackside RV and dry (no hookups) parking lot RV parking are available race weekend as well.
