LUCAS WINNERS CROWNED FOR PROTECT THE HARVEST NORTHWEST NATIONALS

KENT, Wash. - It took a little longer than expected but winners were crowned at Pacific Raceways for the Protect the Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as the father-son duo of Jeff and Cody Lane out of North Bend, Ore., led the charge with wins in Comp and Super Stock.

Jeff faced off with Ralph Van Paepeghem, Garden Valley, Idaho, posting an 8.055 second run at 163 mph to Van Paepeghem's quicker but losing 7.275, 182.48 after the pair left the line together. Jeff's son Cody went 10.555 seconds at 124.33 for his victory lap when Darrell Stobbe, Abbotsford, B.C., left early with a red light foul start for his second win of the year having won the national event in Las Vegas back in April. The win was Jeff's second as well having won the Northwest division season opener at Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho.

Brian Phillips, Prosser, Wash., also scored his second NHRA Wally trophy in 2016 by taking out Mike Williams, Tilley, Alb. Phillips was .013 at the line, then went 7.976 at 170.41 mph to win the Top Sportsman presented by RacingRVs.com. Phillips also won at Firebird Raceway earlier this year. Williams was looking for his second win of the weekend as he took the win on Thursday for the rain delayed Lucas Oil event from Spokane County Raceway that was also completed this weekend at Pacific Raceways.

In the Top Dragster presented by RacingRVs.com it was Chuck Glanz, Myrtle Creek, Ore., 74 years young, grabbed his first win of his career. Glanz's 6.456 on the 6.45 dial beat out Bellingham, Wash., racer Quentin Chambers with a 6.110 on the 6.10.

Tory Lea, Enumclaw, Wash., and Steve Laskowske, Tigard, Ore., won in Super Comp and Super Gas respectively. Lea downed Don Knoblauch, Sumner, Wash., running 8.906 (8.90 index) at 164.90 to Knoblauch who broke out with an 8.803. Laskowske defeated Rick Cates, Canyon, Texas, on a hole shot as he combined a .013 second reaction time with a lap of 9.905, 162.12 to Cates' dead on 9.900 at 163.87.

Jerry Denton, Tempe, Ariz., rounded out this weekend's Northwest Nationals winners as he put Doug Jones, Lakewood, Wash., on the trailer with a pass of 10.936, 135.86 for the Super Street title. Jones was late off the line and broke out by .001 trying to catch Denton.
