National Autumn at the Arboretum Fall Festival to Return to Dallas with 90,000 Pumpkins and the "Art of the Pumpkin" in September

DALLAS, July 26, 2016 -- More than 90,000 pumpkins are sprouting in the Texas Panhandle this month, on their way to being featured in this year's Autumn at the Arboretum national fall festival, made possible by Alliance Data and Texas Instruments. Named one of "America's Best Pumpkin Festivals" by Fodor's Travel, MSN Travel and Country Living, this year's event at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden will highlight the "Art of the Pumpkin", September 17 to November 23. The Dallas Arboretum was just named one of the 15 most breathtaking gardens in the world by Architectural Digest.

For the 11th year, Autumn at the Arboretum will include the popular one-acre Pumpkin Village in the Pecan Grove, featuring artful arrangements of tens of thousands of pumpkins, gourds, squash, bales of hay and cornstalks. They are used to create pumpkin houses that represent nature to reflect the "Art of the Pumpkin". Cinderella's "Pumpkin" Carriage will also return, courtesy of Baylor Scott & White at White Rock. Set amidst the garden's remaining summer flowers, and 150,000 fall blooms like chrysanthemums, copper plants and firebush, it will open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The popular Haybale Maze will also return with the Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch offering pumpkins for purchase, and the Great Pumpkin Search.

"We'll feature 30 different types of pumpkins from Floydada, the Pumpkin Capital of Texas this year," said Dave Forehand, vice president of gardens for the Dallas Arboretum. "Last year, a quarter of a million people came to Autumn at the Arboretum, which takes 50 members of our horticulture team three weeks to build. As our pumpkins grow in West Texas, we're designing this year's breathtaking display."

The Arboretum will also feature this year's selfie hit, The Great Contributors by Gary Lee Price, through November 27, of eight life-size bronze statues. Guests can grab selfies with Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Claude Monet, Albert Einstein, William Shakespeare, Mark Twain and the Wright Brothers throughout the garden. The newest addition to Gary Lee Price's Bronze Statues Exhibit, Delbert the Dragon and His Book Club, can also now be found in the Pecan Grove.
