Sound Spending: Wounded Warrior Project Hosts Financial Class

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 21, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- During a recent Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) program event, financial professionals volunteered their time and expertise to warriors and their guests with in-depth briefings on effective financial planning practices.

As participants met and mingled with fellow warriors, economic experts provided them with useful information about smart budgeting, estate planning, investing, and saving for retirement.

"We are always talking about ways we can save money and cut expenses," said Eve Burgman, who attended the seminar with her husband Ernest, a wounded warrior from the Army National Guard. "After taking the class, we can now compare what we were doing with what we need to be doing. That way we can save money and be better prepared for things."

"I feel it's very important for warriors and their families to be part of programs such as these," Ernest said. "It helps you to plan for the future and lets you know what programs are out there to help."

Charlotte Springer, an Army veteran, said the best part of the gathering was interacting with people who have been in similar financial situations.

"You have other warriors and family members sharing their experiences, so you have real-life advice," she said.

Charlotte was also grateful for the information provided by the financial advisers.

"Since I retired from the Army I haven't worked, so I was glad the financial planning class helped me learn how to stretch my coins," she said. "I was also excited to learn about credit freezes since a lot of people I know have been victims of credit fraud."

During program activities, WWP staff closely interacted with attendees and advised them of additional programs and services offered.

"The WWP representatives shared a lot of information and showed concern about people's situations," Eve said. "They also followed up with us after the class. I'm thankful to WWP for allowing me and my husband to attend this class, and everything else they do for soldiers and their families."

By providing assistance with educational and employment goals, and physical, mental, and emotional recovery, WWP helps injured warriors gain and maintain their independence.

"Wounded Warrior Project is a good organization that has helped me adjust to my new normal," Charlotte said.
