HOME STATE RACERS DOMINATE AT AUTO CLUB DRAGWAY

FONTANA, Calif. - California racers dominated the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Auto Club Speedway at Auto Club Dragway as the home state took wins in seven of the nine classes this weekend. Doug Lambeck, Irvine, led the charge along with Jimmy DeFrank, Thousand Oaks, and Robert Naber of Ontario. This was the second win of the year for all three drivers and they all won the season opening Circle K NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona back in February.

Lambeck raced to the win in Comp Eliminator over veteran racer Ed Sigmon with an 8.388 second pass at 152.69 mph in his '08 Sunfire to Sigmon's 8.431, 154.16 in his '34 roadster. The win was Lambeck's 18th win split between Comp and Super Stock.

DeFrank continued his winning ways knocking out local racer Leo Glasbrenner of Chino, Calif., in Super Stock for his 44th divisional event win and Naber downed Ryan Herem, Canyon Country, Calif., in Super Gas. DeFrank went 8.955, 148.62 to nip Glasbrenner by about ten inches and Naber drove his '63 Corvette to a lap of 9.894, 158.48 for his fifth divisional Wally trophy.

Michael Proctor and Frank Gostyla prevented the California sweep as the pair of Arizona racers took home wins in Super Comp and Top Sportsman respectively. Proctor, Chandler, Ariz., went seven rounds and beat Michael Boner, Riverside, Calif., for his first win running 8.925 at 171.34. Gostyla wheeled his '02 Grand Am to his first NHRA win running 7.490 seconds at 177.86 mph to Utah's Ed Olpin at 7.064, 196.82.

In Stock Eliminator it was John Calvert, Lancaster, Calif., out first on Chad Langdon, La Mirada, Calif., forcing Langdon to run too quick and break out in his '71 Barracuda. Calvert went 8.463, 161.15 in his '16 Mustang for his 6th career win at the Lucas Oil divisional level.

Rounding out the winners were Jesse Adams, Yuba City, Calif., taking out Andy Spiegel, Acton, Calif., in Top Sportsman; Greg Ventura, Garden Grove, Calif., defeated Bernie Polvadore, Sun City Ariz., in Super Street; and Tom Medlin, La Mirada, Calif., ended Denny Alves' day in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson.
