Where "Foreign Cars" Car Brands Rule the Roads

Washington DC July 7, 2015; The AIADA newsletter, while a recent study determined that many internationally-branded cars are actually more "American" than those from the "Big Three" domestic makes in terms of their manufacturing and locally produced content, Forbes suspects few buyers look beyond the badging when it comes to making a buying decision.

And that decision is likely to skew more towards what are at least perceived to be American cars and those from European and Asian brands in different parts of the country, with domestic makes topping all comers in the Midwest, and with internationals being favored in coastal cities.

Forbes reports that's according to a recent report conducted by the new- and used-vehicle website CarGurus.com, which examined inquiries submitted by CarGurus users to dealers around the nation to determine the share of consumer interest by brand in major metropolitan areas.

Those living in San Francisco tend to choose European-branded models most often while their close neighbors in San Jose, Calif. instead favor vehicles having Japanese or Korean nameplates.
