About The One Lap of America

Created by Brock Yates and popularized by the movie Cannonball Run, the Tire Rack One Lap of America Presented by Grassroots Motorsports Magazine is a modern iteration of the Cannonball Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash of 1970.

Today's One Lap of America tests its participants with long transit drives of over 400 miles daily and timed trial competitions on some of America’s most challenging racetracks. The 32nd running of One Lap begins on May 2nd, 2015 at the Tire Rack headquarters in South Bend, Indiana and concludes the competition there on May 9th, 2015.

From the Tire Rack’s South Bend headquarters on May 2nd One Lap participants head immediately to the Mid-America Motorplex (Pacific Junction, Iowa) for events May 3rd. Next up is the High Plains Raceway (Deer Trail, CO) and the Tire Rack’s Denver facility, both on May 4th. The caravan concludes its time in Colorado at Pueblo Motorsport Park on May 5th.

The Tire Rack One Lap moves into Texas for events at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX on May 6th, followed by a visit to the North Star Drag Strip in Denton later that day. The legendary Hallett Motor Racing Circuit (Jennings, OK) is next up on May 7th, while the National Corvette Museum’s Motorsports Park (Bowling Green, KY) will be the host of two time trials on May 8th. As noted, the One Lap of America competition concludes with its May 9th return to the Tire Rack’s South Bend headquarters.

Some sixty vehicles manned by a driver and co-driver will compete; ‘vintage’ Fords are well represented by both a ’77 Country Squire and ’98 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. In between is an entrant list including Corvettes, Miatas, Camaros and Carreras, all vying to be King of the Hill in this most eclectic of motorsport competitions.
