- The connected vehicle and Intelligent Transportation Systems are at the brink of reaching high market penetration.

DETROIT -- April 17, 2015: Traffic congestion is on the rise. Vehicle emissions and road accidents must be reduced further. Despite this, driving is still considered fun and convenient for more than 90% of Americans, according to a recent Mobility Study conducted by international automotive supplier Continental.

"With one of the most complete product portfolios in the area of information management we enable the automotive industry to fulfill the great demand for individual mobility in our society," said Helmut Matschi, head of the Interior Division and Member of the Executive Board at Continental. "With the Internet of Everything we now have the opportunity to make vehicles even more attractive, more efficient, and safer."

Connected infotainment services already allow integrating the digital world and making vehicles more attractive. With real-time connected services like Continental's dynamic eHorizon it even becomes possible to directly enhance the vehicle systems such as the powertrain or driver assistance systems. This new, connected solution uses cloud-based and highly accurate map data to give the vehicle a glimpse into the future.

"From bandwidth to processing power and big data analytics, the technology needed for the connected vehicle has reached a significant state far enough to unlock its huge potential for optimization, not only for the vehicle but even beyond. Intelligent Transportation Systems are at the brink of reaching higher market penetration," said Matschi.

To bring these solutions to the market and into series production, the industry is faced with a major challenge.

"Today, more than ever, systems integration is necessary to realize connected solutions," added Matschi.

The industry is experiencing more cross domain software development. Complex vehicle functions have to be intuitively accessible and trustworthy for the driver. The Internet of Everything also requires even more cross industry expertise to be managed.

"With a great focus on software development, our approach for a holistic human machine interface and our cross industry collaborations with IBM, HERE and Cisco, Continental has set out to tackle the complexity and create exciting solutions for future mobility," said Matschi.

Continental at the SAE World Congress Helmut Matschi will be providing the SAE World Congress morning session keynote address on Thursday, April 23, from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m., in the AVL Technology Leadership Center. He will provide greater insight into the rapidly changing societal demands on mobility and reveal some key findings of Continental's Mobility Study.

Continental is the Tier One Strategic Partner for the SAE 2015 World Congress & Exhibition taking place April 21-23, 2015, at the Cobo Center in Detroit. Continental will demonstrate its latest technologies and its leadership is participating in industry panel discussions and technical sessions, in addition to providing a keynote address during this year's event.
