New Generation Hyundai i10 wins coveted Scottish Car of the Year title

Also voted best-in-class Small Car by Association of Scottish Motoring Writers

i10 is a sales smash hit in Scotland and across the UK

ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND -- November 29, 2014: New Generation Hyundai i10 has added yet more trophies to its already bulging awards-cabinet after being crowned Scottish Car of the Year and Best Small Car at the annual Scottish Car of the Year Awards.

The awards were presented last night at a ceremony in St Andrews by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) who together represent print, broadcast and digital media outlets from across the country. The latest in a string of awards for New Generation Hyundai i10 in 2014, it is the first time a Hyundai model has been crowned Scottish Car of the Year.

Alisdair Suttie, President, Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, said: “The fact that Hyundai i10 not only won its category but also the overall Scottish Car of the Year accolade – ahead of many significantly more expensive newcomers – is a true testament to this car’s strengths. Hyundai i10 is perfectly placed to appeal to a Scottish audience, particularly for private buyers parting with their own cash, showing that drivers no longer need to make sacrifices when downsizing.”

Speaking of the multiple awards, Tony Whitehorn, President & CEO, Hyundai Motor UK, said: “i10 has gone from strength to strength in 2014, impressing previous generation owners whilst simultaneously attracting new customers in the 11 months it has been on sale. I would like to thank the Scottish Group of Motoring Writers for recognising i10 as overall Scottish Car of the Year – it is a privilege to accept this award for the first time in the history of Hyundai Motor UK. It’s a testament to the brand’s progress in the last five years and a huge boost at the end of a remarkable year.”

i10 has been a sales hit across the UK with over 22,000 examples of the New Generation model sold since it went on sale in January 2014. It is also Scotland’s favourite Hyundai model, achieving more than 2,200 sales so far this year. It is then perhaps no surprise that i10 also triumphed in the Small Car category.

Commenting on i10’s performance in the Small Car category, Stephen Park, Secretary, Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, said: “The original i10 was good but the New Generation i10 is brilliant. It boasts all the essential small car credentials – economy, low emissions and ease of manoeuvrability – but adds further appeal in the form of improved looks, it’s great to drive and the sort of comfort which stops long journeys from being a chore. A five-year warranty sealed the deal to make the Hyundai i10 the judges’ favourite.”

Priced from £8,595 OTR, New Generation i10 features a sophisticated and stylish design design, quality materials and high end features, including air conditioning and Bluetooth®. Road noise levels are among the lowest in its class while its tuned suspension delivers a dynamic driving experience.
