SOUTH BEND, Ind., Nov. 24, 2014; Mobility Ventures LLC, designer and manufacturer of the MV-1 -- the only American-made vehicle that is purpose-built with the wheelchair user in mind -- has successfully completed an updated series of crash tests on the MV-1 that are mandatory for all new Original Equipment Manufactured (OEM)-production vehicles. Mobility Ventures is pleased to report that the MV-1 continues to meet or exceed the federal safety and crash test standards currently in effect for new passenger vehicles. The number of successful crash tests performed on the MV-1 to date exceeds 50.

The MV-1 remains the only vehicle that both is specifically made for passengers who use wheelchairs and passes the safety requirements that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has established for new passenger vehicles sold in the United States. Other accessible vehicles in the market are typically foreign-built minivans crash-tested to new vehicle standards before being heavily modified by aftermarket conversion companies. By contrast, the MV-1 is crash tested and certified with all accessibility features installed. Mobility Ventures recently completed successful crash tests on 17 vehicles at varying speeds, angles and positions according to federal new passenger vehicle safety regulations. Three independent vehicle-testing companies performed and validated this latest round of crash tests. MV-1s crash tested and re-certified include both gasoline and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) models.

"These tests confirm, once again, that the MV-1 continues to be the safest wheelchair accessible vehicle on the market today," said John Walsh, Mobility Ventures Vice President for Sales and Marketing. "Our MV-1s are designed with a focus on passenger safety, factory-built to rigorous specifications, and tested and certified to meet government crashworthiness standards."

The MV-1 includes an ADA-compliant side-entry ramp design and meets all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards direct from the factory with no further modifications required. Additionally, the MV-1 is more durable and cost effective to own and operate than a traditional retrofitted van or bus. The MV-1 is dedicated to transporting all passengers, with or without mobility challenges, with dignity and safety, making it the perfect solution for both consumer and commercial fleet services.
