2014 LA Auto Show Eye Candy Preview

USA Today November 17, 2014; USA reported that the long list of luxury and performance cars reflect an industry catering to consumers with money.

A record 33 vehicles are making their global premier in L.A. this week, about a third more than last year, said show spokesman Brendan Flynn. When you add in North American debuts, the number of unveils exceeds 60 vehicles. About 4,000 media members (including your TACH Press Pass Coverage Team)will travel to L.A. from around the world for media days that begin Wednesday. The show opens to the public on Friday. The L.A. show has put an emphasis on green vehicles, and the Green Car of the Year will be announced on Thursday, but fuel-efficient vehicles have become ubiquitous at most auto shows and electric vehicles can be found on almost every stand. This year, the theme is luxury, performance, and exclusive high-end products.

The show stealers are fast, flashy, and expensive. There is the return — after a two-year hiatus — of Daimler's Maybach. Instead of being its own brand, the super-premium stretched sedan returns as the Mercedes-Maybach S 600.

Other luxury carmakers are trotting out some of their best stuff. BMW, Audi, Porsche and Jaguar all have global debuts. For more on what to expect from this week's L.A. Auto Show, click here.
