COTSWOLD, UK -- October 13, 2014; A Citroën C4 Cactus BlueHDi 100 Feel has demonstrated its exceptional fuel efficiency in this year’s ALD Automotive Fleet World MPG Marathon. Returning an impressive 95.0mpg, the C4 Cactus came third overall for outright mpg (in field of 20 conventionally powered passenger cars).

The Citroën C4 Cactus was driven by journalist John Kendall, with co-driver Dr. Paul Nieuwenhuis, over a 330 mile route through the Cotswolds, South Wales and the South Midlands. Competitors had to maintain a 30mph minimum average speed to avoid penalties, while ensuring that they successfully achieved optimum fuel economy. As a result, this event was a great opportunity to illustrate just how fuel efficient the C4 Cactus can be on all types of roads and in a wide variety of driving conditions.

James Parfett, Citroën UK’s Communications Directror, commented; “The MPG Marathon is a real test of a vehicle’s capabilities in terms of fuel economy. In the experienced hands of John Kendall and Paul Nieuwenhuis, our latest addition to the range has proved its exceptional fuel efficiency in some very demanding conditions.”

John Kendall said; “Paul and I knew this would be the toughest challenge we’ve faced since we first entered the MPG Marathon 14 years ago. Cars like the C4 Cactus BlueHDi 100 are optimised for low fuel consumption, meaning that economy drivers have to work really hard to to improve on the official EU combined cycle figure. That said, the C4 Cactus BlueHDi is packed with features to aid fuel efficient driving – such as the speed limiter and cruise control, and relaxed gearing for motorway use. It’s 200kg lighter than the C4 too, the equivalent of not carrying two large, heavy adults around all the time. There’s fast-acting Stop and Start as well, making sure that you use as little fuel as possible when queueing in traffic.”

A class-winning result was was also achieved by MPG Marathon first-timers Andrew Merritt-Morling and co-driver Wayne Gorrett, in a New Citroën C1 PureTech 82 Flair. They crewed their New C1 to achieve an outstanding 79.12mpg. Not only did this make it the most economical petrol powered passenger car in Class 1 (CO2 emissions of 110g/km or less), but it also outperformed its official combined cycle fuel consumption figure by an impressive 20.43%.
