LOUDON, NH -- Sept. 19, 2014: NASCAR hauler drivers may not be driving 200 mph around an enclosed track, but they are logging thousands of miles delivering those pristine racecars and equipment to each and every track. With NASCAR Sprint® Cup Series races hosted in 20 different states, navigating such a large vehicle from across the country is challenging, especially given much of the time can be spent on the road after dark in less than ideal conditions. SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting's "Hauler Headlights for Safer Nights" initiative helps to make their journeys a little less difficult.

In celebration of the fifth annual initiative, SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting is debuting at the SYLVANIA 300 "The Light Shift™," a new digital video series that will chronicle unique stories of people whose jobs, hobbies or lifelong passions require them to travel to and from their destinations in the dark, and highlight the role that visibility plays in their day to day lives.

The first video in the series will offer an in-depth look at Michael Waltrip Racing hauler driver Glenn Shano. The video shows what it is like for Glenn behind the wheel of a big rig, hauling a multi-million dollar machine around the country.

"I really love my job but am serious about safety since every piece of equipment on the rig is my responsibility," said Shano. "Our travel schedule requires a lot of nighttime driving, through places like the rugged mountains of West Virginia and the immense darkness of the deserts, so I demand high performing headlights."

This year's Hauler Headlights for Safer Nights initiative kicked off in July at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway where SYLVANIA team members upgrade big rigs with downroad headlights that have whiter and brighter light for more clarity– SYLVANIA SilverStar® ULTRA headlight bulbs. The effort came full circle at the SYLVANIA 300 on Thursday, Sept. 18, when the haulers made their way into the compound for the weekend's race with their bright lights shining.

"The amount of time hauler drivers spend on the road is fascinating, and our work this year with the haulers goes beyond the parade," said Brian Noble, marketing manager for SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting. "Our involvement with hauler drivers for the past five years naturally led to the use of a hauler video profile as the introduction of our Light Shift campaign. Glenn's story is a prime example of how visibility and safety go hand-in-hand. We're proud to have worked with him to tell his story and highlight the role quality light plays in his daily routine."
