The Sprinter impresses in the category Base Vehicle for Mobile Home conversions

The award is organized by the magazine Reisemobil International and presented at Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf

Stuttgart-- September 5, 2014: The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has won the European Innovation Award at Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf for its comprehensive range of new assistance and safety systems. The Sprinter was one of 10 vehicles nominated for the award, which is presented by trade journalists from all over Europe to honor especially innovative new camper van products. The judges were greatly impressed by the Sprinter, which they selected as the winner in the category Base Vehicle for Mobile Home Add-ons and Bodies.

As a chassis or closed vehicle, the Sprinter serves as the basis for numerous mobile homes. With its five new safety systems, the Sprinter has risen to a completely new level of safety technology in the van segment.

The Crosswind Assist is fitted as standard equipment in most model variants. Its sensors measure the force of the gusts of wind that come from the side. The system then counteracts these forces, leading to a significant reduction in driver stress. Drivers feel safer and more comfortable as a result, and they do not overreact to gusts of wind.

The other four safety innovations for the new Sprinter are optional: Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, High Beam Assist, and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST. The last of these alerts the driver if he or she is too close to another vehicle or an obstacle.

The magazine Reisemobil International has been organizing the European Innovation Award for the Caravaning Industry since 2010. The winners are selected by the editorial boards of 11 European caravaning publications. The award is presented each year at Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, the world’s largest trade show for camper vans and caravans. This year, around 580 exhibitors registered for the event, where they are presenting more than 1,900 different models, ranging from mini-caravans to luxury mobile homes. Reisemobil International is a monthly trade magazine that is published in Stuttgart.
