Rez Cars - Voiced by top native actors including Tantoo Cardinal and Gary Farmer, crucial moments of past lives breathe again inside abandoned cars resting in reservation country. As in much native storytelling, humor mixes easily with sex, death, moosemeat and 8-tracks. These Rez Cars are all rare examples of past eras' indulgences in automotive color and design, lovingly photographed as they were found in the cinematic landscapes of British Columbia, ranging from the majestic Fraser Canyon to the dystopian Deadman Valley, all loaded with haunting atmospheres. By turns shocking, sexy and spiritual, REZ CARZ is a collection of ghost stories that reveres our inseparable relationship with our cars.

Now, nearly 50 years after buying it, he makes it his mission to restore the old convertible for his son’s wedding. Through in-depth interviews, historical stock footage and animated reenactments, we joyride through an immigrant’s rise to social acceptance and a convertible’s restoration, despite copious setbacks.

Eli Beer: The fastest ambulance? A motorcycle - As a young EMT on a Jerusalem ambulance, Eli Beer realized that, stuck in brutal urban traffic, they often arrived too late to help. So he organized a group of volunteer EMTs — many on foot — ready to drop everything and dash to save lives in their neighborhood. Today, United Hatzlah uses a smart phone app and a fleet of “ambucycles” to help nearby patients until an ambulance arrives. With an average response time of 3 minutes, last year, they treated 207,000 people in Israel. And the idea is going global.

So why not use this detailed and rigorous data system elsewhere, like ... at children’s hospitals? Peter van Manen tells us more. (Filmed at TEDxNijmegen.) *Festival directors note – originally screened at the 2013 festival prior to “1”
