Hannover--June 16, 2014: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles increased sales of Amarok, Caddy, Transporter and Crafter models in Western Europe by 6.2 per cent during the first five months of the year, taking total vehicles shipped to 117,500 (last year: 110,600).

‘The economic recovery in the Western European vehicle market is noticeable,’ said Bram Schot, Member of the Board of Management Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for Sales and Marketing.

‘In our main sales markets customer demand for our highly successful models continues to grow; in May orders increased strongly yet again. Our production plants are running at full steam.’

In Germany Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles recorded a growth of 3.1 per cent to 45,200 units delivered (last year: 43,800). In Great Britain deliveries rose by 16.5 per cent to 19,000 vehicles (last year: 16,300). In Spain the brand achieved a rise of 43.1 per cent to 3,900 vehicles (last year: 2,700).

Deliveries to customers in Eastern Europe rose 1.7 per cent to 15,700 (last year: 15,500).

As a result of the economically difficult market environment in Brazil and the end of production of the T2, shipments of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in South America fell by 41.3 per cent to 17,100 units (last year: 29,100).

Globally the brand’s deliveries fell by 3.3 per cent to 178,400 light commercial vehicles (last year: 184,000).
