May 16, 2014: Great to read about, but even better to drive, the Toyota GT86 has again proved the most popular sports car on honestjohn.co.uk, taking a second successive Performance Car of the Year award.

Racing ahead of more exotic, powerful and expensive rivals, it’s the most popular in its class when it comes to attracting the public’s attention, with more visitors to its page on the honestjohn.co.uk website than any of its rivals.

Dan Harrison, honestjohn.co.uk editor, said: “With a genuine sports car feel, superb handling and the ability to always put a smile on your face, the GT86 is the car we’ve been waiting several years for Toyota to build.

“We love the driver-focused feel and the boxer engine, so while it may not be the fastest performance car around, not much else can match it for sheer enjoyment. It seems our users love it too, with the GT86 review proving very popular once again, winning the Performance Car award for the second year running.”

The honestjohn.co.uk award adds to the impressive tally of honours the GT86 has picked up worldwide since being launched in 2012. The coupe’s character is defined by its front-mounted, 197bhp 2.0-litre “boxer” engine driving the rear wheels, its low centre gravity and its low weight, elements that add up to a true driver’s car in terms of poise and handling. True to the classic sports car concept, Toyota has kept things simple, which in turn keeps the price accessible to more customers; the 2014 GT86 is available from 25,110.
