Volkswagen Golf Wins Best Small Family Car Award
May 15, 2014: The Volkswagen Golf has added once more to its trophy cabinet, claiming not only the HonestJohn.co.uk Small Family Car award for the second year running, but also the overall Car of the Year accolade for 2014. The awards were presented earlier this evening at an event in London.
Commenting on the award, editor of HonestJohn.co.uk, Dan Harrison said: ‘Winning Car of the Year for 2014 and Small Family Car shows the enduring popularity of the Volkswagen Golf. The car sets the quality benchmark in its class and is a great all-round hatchback with the usual Volkswagen build quality and refinement. We think it's a very impressive car and our users clearly agree, with the Golf getting more views than any other review on the site.’
Unlike most awards which are allocated according to the views of a panel of judges, the HonestJohn.co.uk awards recognise and reward the cars, classics and vans that HonestJohn.co.uk users search for most on the site; put simply, the reviews which create the most interest among the website’s users are the winners. The data to measure this is taken from Google Analytics and calculates the number of page views each review has had over the 12 months from April 2013 to April 2014. The site gets around 1.6 million visits every month with the majority of these users viewing car reviews.
The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf was launched in the UK in January 2013 and since then has claimed a raft of top accolades and titles, including World Car of the Year and European Car of the Year. Its popularity is due in large part to its key values of safety, quality, value for money and technology, all of which have been integral to the Golf brand for the past 40 years. Since launch in 1974, over 30 million Golfs have been sold. In addition there’s a Golf for every need, taste and budget, from the parsimonious BlueMotion through the GTI to the range-topping R, as well as the capacious Golf Estate and the Golf SV which goes on sale in July.
The HonestJohn.co.uk website was set up in 2000 to help consumers with advice on buying, selling and running cars. Since then Honest John himself has answered more than 650,000 questions.
