Mazda MX-5 secures 'Convertible Award'
May 15, 2014: World’s best-selling two-seater sports car still acclaimed by fans and media 25 years after its launch More than 113,158 units of MX-5 have been sold in the UK since 1990 (April 2014)
The world’s best-selling two-seater sports car, the Mazda MX-5, was presented with the prestigious ‘Convertible Award’ at the 2014 honestjohn.co.uk awards, held in London yesterday (15 May 2014).
The awards are allocated to those vehicles that attract the greatest numbers of page-views on the honestjohn.co.uk website. The hugely-popular Mazda MX-5, which won ‘Most Popular Roadster’ in the honestjohn.co.uk awards last year, has continued to prove its lasting appeal to visitors on the site over the past year – as well as its ability to deliver sports car performance, without the price tag.
“The Mazda MX-5 has long been regarded as the most enjoyable and engaging open-top car, building up a huge following over the years,” explains Dan Harrison, Editor of honestjohn.co.uk. “So it's perhaps no surprise to see it coming out as the most popular convertible on honestjohn.co.uk. Its combination of buzzy performance and superb handling, combined with an affordable price tag has clearly found favour among our users.”
Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director at Mazda Motors UK, commented: “The Mazda MX-5 is the epitome of our ethos, ‘Challenge Convention To Make Things Better’. Launched globally 25 years ago, each generation of the roadster has won Mazda more fans, sales and awards and it is testament to its outstanding balance, agility and timeless styling that it continues to thrive in the UK.”
The Mazda MX-5 costs from £18,495 on-the-road (OTR) for the soft- top 1.8-litre SE Air Con to £23,695 for the range-topping Roadster Coupe 2.0-litre Powershift. Customers purchasing a brand new Mazda MX-5 with a Mazda PCP finance package can also enjoy the combination of low monthly payments from £275, zero deposit and 0% APR over 42 months, plus a generous deposit contribution of up to £2,250.
