May 9, 2014: The award-winning S-Class has become one of just eight vehicles to join Autocar’s exclusive club of 5-Star Cars.

The Autocar road test – among the most detailed and exacting of its kind - put the S-Class under intense scrutiny – making the full five star rating an achievement worthy of celebration at the annual Autocar Stars celebration last night.

Chas Hallett, Editor of Autocar commented: ‘The S-Class is calm, sophisticated and rewarding, it is a technical knockout that redefines what a luxury car should be.’

Gary Savage, CEO of Mercedes-Benz UK Limited said: ‘In the S-Class we knew we had something special, this has been reflected in its popularity here in the UK where it remains the Number One luxury car. The S-Class really offers the best for both the driver and passengers alike with exciting new technologies and greater levels of luxury, comfort, efficiency and safety than ever before.’

The Autocar Road Test looked at everything from visibility and new technology, to performance and interior space and noise levels. Road testers commented on the exquisite detail and the remarkable build quality in their notes and in summary, the S-Class was described as ‘state of the art in every way, suave, rich, relaxing and supremely fit for purpose’.

The car tested was the S 350 BlueTEC L SE Line, which is available OTR from 62,905 and is powered by a V6 diesel engine with an output of 258 hp. On the combined cycle, the S 350 BlueTEC L SE Line returns 50.4 mpg with emissions of just 146 g/km.
