All-new crossover icon enjoys excellent start in Europe Production fully underway at Nissan's Sunderland plant New Qashqai crowned Car of the Year 2014 by leading UK consumer brand What Car? Bold design combined with segment-leading technology Premium quality interior design, materials and specification Suite of technologies bring maximum convenience, comfort and driver engagement Outstanding efficiency with CO₂ emissions from only 99g/km

GENEVA, Switzerland--March 4, 2014: The all-new Nissan Qashqai, the car that redefines the next-generation crossover, is carrying on where the pioneering original left off. With production fully underway at Nissan's record-breaking Sunderland plant in the UK, delighted customers and the world's media have been able to see for themselves why the new Qashqai rewrites the crossover rulebook.

Premium technology, second-generation crossover design and enhanced dynamics all combine to form the backbone of the new Nissan Qashqai. With the original version having recorded more than two million sales, Nissan used its unrivalled knowledge and experience to design and engineer the perfect crossover.

Building on the core values and strengths of the first-generation model, the all-new Qashqai combines style, technology and excitement in a unique and thoroughly original package.

New design, new technology, new standards

The striking new Qashqai is 47mm longer than the current model and fractionally lower and wider, giving it a sleek, poised stance while maintaining the crossover style, compact dimensions and raised driving position. Distinctive features - including a clamshell-style bonnet - lend a premium appearance while retaining the Qashqai's strong visual DNA.

As with any new Nissan, the Qashqai is packed full of innovative technology. It offers drivers a comprehensive suite of advanced technology features enhancing every aspect of driving. Nissan's Safety Shield technologies now incorporate Forward Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert and Traffic Sign Recognition along with several other vital driver aids, while Intelligent Park Assist takes the stress out of urban manoeuvres. The new Qashqai is designed to make premium technology more accessible than ever.

The innovation continues with the new Qashqai's powertrain range, which is wider and more efficient than ever. Every engine applies start and stop technology in combination with downsize turbocharged engines, emissions and fuel consumption while maintaining excellent performance with class-leading CO₂ emissions - from only 99g/km. Efficiency is further enhanced by an extensive mass reduction programme, resulting in 40kg weight loss on some models despite the extensive addition of new equipment.

While front-wheel-drive variants will account for the majority of sales in most markets, four-wheel-drive ALL-MODE 4x4-i versions will also be available to match a choice of six-speed manual.

Inside, a dramatic rise in material and design quality adds significant interior appeal to the Qashqai package. Versatility also remains a core crossover attribute; Nissan's engineers have devised innovative ways to make the new Qashqai fit into drivers' lives. Delivering greater occupant space and a larger luggage capacity enhanced by a variable floor system, the new Qashqai even offers space to store the parcel shelf underneath the floor of the luggage area when not in use.

Industry accolades

The Qashqai is no stranger to awards ceremonies with the original model having been honoured with numerous industry accolades over the course of the last six years. The all-new version is set to continue that winning streak having already secured one of Europe's most prestigious titles. In January, leading UK magazine and website What Car? awarded its Car of the Year 2014 title to the all-new Qashqai.

The What Car? judging panel praised the new Qashqai's refinement, agile driving experience and low running costs. The panel also highlighted the new Qashqai's comfort and space, along with its efficient engine range and sub-100g/km CO2 emissions.

Production fully underway

Based on the new CMF (Common Module Family) Renault-Nissan Alliance platform, production of the all-new Qashqai is fully underway at Nissan's Sunderland factory in the UK - one of the most efficient and productive plants in the world.

The new model is built on Sunderland's Line 1, which has been running on 24-hour operations since 2010 to meet demand, and where the 100% electric Nissan LEAF is also made. Such is the efficiency of the line that a new Qashqai is completed every 61 seconds.

The international economic impact of Qashqai spreads from Sunderland across the world, with £534 million now invested by Nissan in its development and production. The plant supports more than 224 suppliers in 22 countries, and exports to more than 130 global markets.

New Qashqai - a truly international car

Designed and engineered in Europe, for Europe, the new Qashqai has been created by Nissan's experts at Nissan Design Europe (London, UK) and Nissan Technical Centre Europe (Cranfield, UK and Barcelona, Spain). Extensive input has also come from Nissan's designers and engineers in Atsugi, Japan.
