AJAX, ONTARIO--Feb. 13, 2014: Since its launch almost 40 years ago, over 30 million Volkswagen Golfs have found their way onto roads around the world. Today at the Canadian International Autoshow in Toronto, Volkswagen Canada proudly unveiled the all-new, seventh generation of the car that created an entire segment.

Already named "2013 World Car of the Year" by a panel of distinguished international journalists, the new Golf has been redesigned from the ground up. Based upon Volkswagen's latest technological masterpiece, the "MQB Platform", the Golf embodies the spirit of the original, and incorporates all of the latest engineering advances. It is the safest, best-handling and roomiest Golf of all time.

Through the use of high-strength steels, the increased rigidity and improved safety and handling have not come at the expense of added weight. The net result is a new level of fuel efficiency that belies the performance of the vehicle.

Powered by an all-new, 1.8L direct-injected turbocharged engine, the Golf delivers 170 hp and 184 lb. ft of torque.

From the outside, there is no doubt that this is the newest Golf. Bold, sculpted lines give the exterior timeless appeal. There is a complete absence of clutter in the design, lending a very business-like appearance.

Inside, the materials and fit and finish would not be out of place in a luxury car, offering both driver and passenger ample space in a very accommodating environment. Features like Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, Satellite radio, and a 5.8" touchscreen interface are all standard, and the available options will allow Canadians to customize the Golf to suit their own personal tastes.

Available in both 3 and 5 door variants, the all-new Golf will be available later this spring with a starting price of just $18,995.
