BEIJING – Feb 6, 2014: PEUGEOT will unveil a new concept car as a world first at the next Beijing International Automobile Exhibition, which takes place between 20 and 29 April.

From the same lineage as the Onyx concept car, it is a suggestion of the brand’s future design.

With a length of 4.73m and a height of 1.31m, this concept offers athletic and refined styling for four passengers and their luggage. The special work done with original materials forms part of the PEUGEOT Style approach, first used for Onyx, and which becomes a direction for the brand’s future vehicles.

As part of the opening evening for the International Automobile Festival, Tribute to Sensations, an original and ephemeral installation will reveal the shapes of this concept. Then from 29 January to 2 February, at the foot of the Dôme des Invalides, the public will be able to discover the PEUGEOT Onyx, 308 R Concept, the 208 T16 Pikes Peak as well as a 908 HDi with particulate filter.

The PEUGEOT Onyx concept comes home after having made its mark at the Geneva, Shanghai and Frankfurt motor shows. Onyx also made its mechanical parts heard on the Le Mans and Le Castelet circuits and filled the public with enthusiasm during the Festival of Speed held at Goodwood in England.

Onyx explores the harmonious co-existence of new materials: carbon fibre and hand beaten copper in the bodywork; felt and Newspaper Wood in the cabin. These materials are left in their natural state, without protection. The sheets of copper acquired a patina during the year, demonstrating that the concept car was clocking up the miles. This work of art is powered by a 3.7 litre V8 HDi with particulate filter that develops 600 hp.

PEUGEOT 308 R Concept is the extreme extrapolation of the new PEUGEOT 308, from which it retains its elegance and sophistication. Its ultra-sporty nature is expressed in particular by the ride height, lowered by 26mm, the body parts in carbon fibre and its power unit. Developed by PEUGEOT Sport for the RCZ R, it is the completely new 1.6 THP 270 coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

This petrol engine develops a record specific power output for a standard production vehicle, at almost 170hp per litre. The 308 R concept innovates with its two-tone treatment, uniting red and black, outlined by a clean cut-off inspired by the Onyx.

Developed in record time by PEUGEOT Sport, the 208 T16 Pikes Peak made a big impression from the start with its brutish proportions. The power to weight ratio is in keeping, ferocious: 875 horsepower for 875 kg! In 2013, the 208 T16 Pikes Peak set a new record for this legendary course in Colorado: 8’13’’878.

Before its sale at auction on 5 February by RM Auctions, PEUGEOT will also show a 908 HDi. Powered by a 5.5-litre V12 HDi engine with particulate filter developing 700hp, this car, chassis number 5, competed 8 times between 2008 and 2010. It carried off the Petit Le Mans race in 2009 and the Portimao event the following year. This record of achievement is completed with three second places.
