SYDNEY – Jan 30, 2014: Both drivers and spectators at this year’s Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motor Sport from March 7-9 will get a bigger bang for their buck.

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Australia’s most popular classic motor sport event, the Victorian Historic Racing Register has extended the circuit program to encompass a record 44 events over both the Saturday (March 8) and Sunday (March 9) of the meeting.

Practice and qualifying sessions for all categories will now be held on Friday March 7, leaving the entire weekend free for four separate races for most categories – two on each day – giving drivers up to 25 per cent more racing.

The format change further cements the Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motor Sport’s reputation as one of the world’s great historic motor sport events.

The ‘Classic’ for the past three years has been a short-listed finalist in the International Historic Motoring Awards, competing against such prestigious events at the UK’s Goodwood Revival and Silverstone Classic, Belgium’s Spa Six Hour Historic Festival and the US’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca.

This year’s ‘Classic will again attract the largest entry of any historic car racing event in the Southern Hemisphere, with close to 500 racing, sports and touring cars spanning 100 years expected to be on the entry list when nominations close in early February.

With its extended programme, this year’s event will represent even better value for spectators.
