Recall Kia Sportage and Kia Soul in Australia

SYDNEY--January 29, 2014: Kia has issued a recall for some of its models, like the Sportage and the Soul, which will affect almost 3,000 units in Australia, because of a seatbelt pretensioner fault.

According to the car manufacturer, a total of 2,941 units of the Kia Sportage an Kia Soul will be affected by this recall in Australia and their owners will have to take a trip back to the dealers in order to get the problem with the seatbelt pretensioners fixed. The ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) says that the vehicle’s occupants can be injured if the defective tensioning cable will be unleashed.

“If the cable breaks during pretensioner deployment, the cable will not be able to restrain the occupant to the full capacity during an accident”, as the ACCC is saying in its notice.

The South Korean based automaker Kia is currently unaware of any injuries reported because of the pretensioners failure. Owners of the vehicles mentioned above will be contacted by the company by mail and the necessary repairs and / or replacements will be made free of charge and they will take approximately one hour.
