CIRENCESTER, UNITED KINGDOM – Jan 21, 2014: Mitsubishi Brand Ambassador and Olympic equestrian Mary King MBE says she can’t wait for the 2014 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.

And Mary, a member of the Team GB’s triumphant equestrian squad at London 2012, is already busy getting ready for the event. Speaking as she collected the keys to her new Mitsubishi Outlander at the company’s UK headquarters in Cirencester Mary said: ‘Preparing Imperial Cavalier for Badminton is the main aim for the spring season.

‘The dream would be for Imperial Cavalier to go well enough at Badminton to be selected to ride at the World Equestrian Games in France this year. The only thing against us is he is getting old. He is 17 years old this year so he is very much getting to the end of his career, which is very sad because he has been such an awesome horse.’

Last year the eventer from Salcombe Regis starred at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials where she received the Armada Dish for an impressive fourth time – the accolade is awarded to riders for completing the competition at Badminton five times.

Mary said: ‘I’m looking forward to Badminton again. Hopefully I will complete it and finish in the top few if not try and win it!’

Mary also had a message for Zara Phillips, who was an eventing equestrian teammate at London 2012, after the Queen’s granddaughter gave birth to her first child at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with husband, the Gloucester rugby star, Mike Tindall at her side.

Mary, who has represented Great Britain at six Olympic Games, winning two silver medals and one bronze, said: ‘I’m absolutely thrilled to bits for Zara and Mike. It’s a little girl and possibly a future Olympian in years to come. I was very fortunate I managed to get back riding quite quickly and I hope that Zara can do the same.’

Mary, who has been a Mitsubishi Brand Ambassador since February last year, is clearly enjoying being behind the wheel of the Mitsubishi Outlander.

She said: ‘I love the Outlander. I find it’s very economical and I really enjoy driving it. It’s got a big boot which is great for all my horse bits and bobs. And when I took it skiing it coped very well in the snow.’
