WHITLEY, UNITED KINGDOM - Jan 10, 2014: The all-new Range Rover Sport has been voted the UK’s number one SUV in the large SUV category by the judges at What Car?

The jurours picked the 3.0-litre SDV6 HSE model as their favourite, rating it ahead of Mazda’s CX-5 2.2 Skyactiv-D 150 SE-L and the BMW X3 xDrive20d SE auto. The latter car has won the award for the past two years.

The expert jury praised the Range Rover Sport’s high level of standard equipment, which includes keyless entry, reversing camera, electrically adjustable steering wheel and heated rear seats. They also described it as “wonderfully hushed compared with competitors”, adding that the ride was smoother.

Chas Hallett, editor-in-chief of What Car? commented: “The Range Rover Sport is a fantastic car to cover long distances in, with a gorgeous cabin and lots of luxury equipment.”

Jeremy Hicks, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover UK, said: “We are delighted with the response to the new Range Rover Sport. Customers love the combination of all-terrain, all-weather capability and contemporary luxury. This award from a consumer authority such as What Car? is further testament to its success and we are thrilled to receive it.”

Priced from £51,550, the new Range Rover Sport is the most dynamic Land Rover yet, providing owners with an agile and responsive driving experience on or off-road. It’s available with a choice of 18 exterior colours, designed specifically to complement the huge range of interior leathers, wood veneers and metallic detailing.

Powered by the SDV6, the Range Rover Sport can sprint from 0-62mph in just 6.8 seconds and has a top speed of 130mph. Fuel economy is an impressive 37.7mpg with CO2 emissions of only 199g/km. The SUV is available with two other powertrain options, a 3.0-litre TDV6 and a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol.
