SYDNEY – Dec 6, 2013: Fiat Chrysler has confirmed its standing as one of the fastest expanding automotive groups in Australia after breaking multiple sales records and achieving double and triple digit growth across its brands for the 2013 calendar year.

The group finished the year with sales of 33,968 units − an increase of 10,229 units, or 43 per cent, on 2012.

Jeep sold 22,170 vehicles, an improvement of 23 per cent on the previous year and the first time the brand exceeded 20,000 units.

Alfa Romeo had its best year since 2002 with sales of 2,373 new vehicles. This was also 162 per cent higher than the 2012 result.

Fiat, including commercial vehicles, tripled its 2012 volume, achieving 5,088 sales.

The Fiat passenger vehicle division alone saw a sales increase of 651 per cent on 2012, earning it the title of the fastest growing car brand in Australia for sales volume according to VFACTS data.

December 2013 was also the strongest single month of sales for the group, with 2611 sales for the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands and 1,110 sales for the Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands.

It was the first time total Fiat sales exceeded 1,000 in a month.

Jeep Grand Cherokee also posted a record 1,431 sales for December, the sixth successive month of more than 1,000 sales in a month for the multi-award winning SUV.

It also finished the second half of 2013 as the best-selling large SUV, outperforming Ford Territory and Toyota Prado.

Fiat and Abarth 500/500C achieved more sales in December than for the entire 2012 calendar year. This result also meant the iconic Italian small car outsold Mitsubishi Mirage and Ford Fiesta for the month.

Other significant achievements for 2013 include:

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee achieving more than 10,000 sales for the first time in a calendar year
  • Chrysler 300 doubling 2012 sales (2,508 compared with 1,206)
  • Fiat/Abarth 500/500C quadrupling 2012 sales (2,443 compared with 513)
  • Alfa Romeo MiTo more than doubling 2012 sales (352 compared with 160)
  • Alfa Romeo Giulietta more than tripling 2012 sales (1,949 compared with 610)
  • Fiat Ducato exceeding 1000 units for the first time
  • Best year of sales for Jeep Compass, Patriot, Wrangler and Dodge Journey

Fiat Chrysler Australia CEO and President Veronica Johns said the result validated the group’s aggressive pricing, broad product offering and support from the dealer network.

“This is a stunning result that proves our products are hitting the right note in important sectors of the market,” Ms Johns said.

“None of this would happen without the hard work of our dealers, who continue to support our product and back that up with excellent customer service.

“We will work hard to build on this growth in 2014 as we introduce exciting new models and expand our dealer network across Australia.”
