SYDNEY – Dec 17, 2013: To help support those who suffered through the NSW bushfires in October this year, Hankook Tyre Australia and its dealers have donated $10,000 to the Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal.

The series of bushfires consisted of more than 100 fires across the state, with NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell declaring a state of emergency on October 20. The fires were the worst in NSW since the 1960s, with 250 houses and structures destroyed, two fatalities and an estimated damage bill close to $100 million.

“As time marches on, it is too easy to forget about the tragedies we encounter,” said Hankook Tyre Australia Managing Director, Mr Paul Park. “We wanted to provide a boost to the Salvation Army’s Bushfire Appeal as it heads into Christmas and we hope that our small part helps make some lives and some families a little more pleasant through what is a very tough time.”

The Salvation Army set up the Bushfire Appeal and, like most emergency appeals, will run for a period of four years. Meeting with Salvation Army representative, Doug Horwood, the donation consists of a donations from Hankook Tyre Australia and a number of generous Australian Hankook tyre dealers from NSW and Queensland.

“Our Bushfire Appeal is has current commitments to around $8million,” explained Mr Horwood. “Cash donations are always appreciated, and we often convert it to gift cards at major stores to allow people to shop in those places. What we need more of, going into Christmas, is gifts for teenagers and unwrapped presents.”

In 2015, the Salvation Army will be 150 years old and is in 125 countries around the world. To donate to the Bushfire Appeal, to the Christmas Appeal, or the Salvation Army, visit salvationarmy.org.au.
