LONDON – Nov 20, 2013: Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is delighted to announce that Ian Cameron, the marque’s former Chief Designer, has been honoured with the Automotive Achievement Award by the Welsh Motoring Writers Group. The honour was presented by the Group’s Patron and former winner Richard Woolley, Director of Design at Land Rover.

Following a tour of the Home of Rolls-Royce, the 15-strong group of Welsh journalists took the opportunity to drive Phantom and Ghost models to their annual dinner at HMS Nelson’s Wardroom in Portsmouth.

“As we celebrate a decade since the launch of Phantom and the establishment of the new Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex it is a most fitting time for Ian to be bestowed with this honour,” said James Warren, Product & Corporate Communications Manager, UK. “We are delighted to support the Welsh Group’s annual dinner, an event held in great spirit, and look forward to working together in the coming year.”

Ian Cameron was appointed to the role of Chief Designer in 1999 following the acquisition of the marque by BMW Group, retiring in 2012. During his tenure he led the design team for all Phantom family and Ghost models and is widely credited with creating thoroughly contemporary motor cars that remained sympathetic to the marque’s design lineage.

“I am delighted to accept the award in the name of the Rolls-Royce Design Team. They, after all, are the ones who did the work. As with an orchestra, some designers think it is the chap at the front who deserves the accolades. But it is the team that makes the music and delivers the product so I am indeed delighted to accept this award in their name,” said Ian Cameron, former Chief Designer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
