SYDNEY – Nov 13, 2013: Mazda has strengthened its extensive arts and culture portfolio with the announcement as Principal Sponsor of Fashion Icons: Masterpieces from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris in conjunction with Art Exhibitions Australia.

Opening exclusively in Adelaide in October 2014, Fashion Icons will bring together over 100 haute couture garments from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris spanning the 1940s to the 1990s, and created by some of the world’s most influential fashion designers including Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Thierry Mugler, Givenchy and Alexander McQueen.

Fashion Icons will paint a unique picture of Parisian style through the decades and will trace the development of fashion trends, with each exquisite costume playing a part in inspiring fashions of the 21st century.

In a vision brought together by internationally renowned curator Pamela Golbin and acclaimed French designer and architect Christian Biecher, Fashion Icons is sure to have a broad appeal and will inspire the next generation of Australian fashion designers.

Mazda Australia’s managing director, Martin Benders, said: “We are excited to be bringing collections from esteemed designers that have cemented their place in fashion history to the Australian public. At Mazda, spirit and emotion have been critical to the progressive design DNA of our vehicles since the 1960s and it is evident that these traits are also present within the ever-evolving fashion industry.”

Fashion Icons will be open to the public from 25 October 2014 – 1 February 2015 at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
