MELBOURNE – Nov 7, 2013: Premium tyre manufacturer Hankook has been selected for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia/Pacific Index (DSJI Asia/Pacific), as one of the leading sustainability-driven companies in the region. Hankook is the first tyre company in Korea to be included in this globally recognised sustainability index. In particular, the company obtained high scores in core components of corporate sustainability such as corporate social responsible activities, ethics management, environment management, climate change strategy and innovation management.

As a responsible corporate citizen, the tyre manufacturer has been promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities via diverse internal and external programmes. The company undertakes philanthropic initiatives through Hankook Tire Welfare Foundation, established to take on company-wide social contribution efforts including academic scholarship programmes, support for charity hospitals in Korea as well as volunteering works for local communities. Also, internally, Hankook recently took a multi-faceted approach to reinforce internal employee ethics – such as a re-alignment of employee code of ethics, conducting internal ethics education as well as fair-trade campaigns.

Mr. Seung Hwa Suh, Vice Chairman and CEO of Hankook Tire said: “Hankook Tire’s inclusion in the DJSI Asia/Pacific represents a global recognition for our continued efforts to establish a sound growth as a socially responsible corporate citizen.” He further added: “As a leading global tyre company, we will continue with our active socially responsible management to grow together with society, promote sustainable development and achieve harmony among stakeholders.”
