"At FRIMO, we strive to provide our customers with a full range of technologies and products, so we're always thrilled when they can experience firsthand all we have to offer during an event like this," said Jeff Daily, president, FRIMO, Inc. "From technical presentations and plant tours to product demonstrations and networking opportunities, TechDay offers our attendees a high-level, informative experience."
In addition to the company's latest innovations in polyurethane processing, thermoforming, laminating, edgefolding, trimming / scoring and welding technologies being on display, the event also includes technical presentations, product displays by FRIMO and partner companies, facility tours and product demonstrations.
TechDay is being held at FRIMO's TechCenter, a state-of-the-art customer support facility designed to meet the demands of the company's customers in automotive interior and other industries. It is the only one of its kind in North America. The center provides tooling and production facilities for a complete range of processes used to develop interior products such as instrument panels, door trim, consoles, headliners, seats, headrests and more.
The center houses an array of specialized equipment, including VarioForm thermoforming machinery and tooling – which includes complete In-Mold Graining (IMG) capabilities; JoinLine infrared and ultrasonic welding equipment; polyurethane rigid and semi-flexible foam-in-place metering equipment and tooling; FlexTrim router process equipment and fixturing; invisible air bag scoring equipment and fixturing; the PUReLine polyurethane spray system and more. It also features two secure trial test bays for customers to run pre-production prototypes.
FRIMO partner companies participating at TechDay and showcasing their latest developments include Allen-Bradley, Automation Technology, BASF, Benecke-Kaliko, Bo-NaFaTec, Dow Automotive Systems, Electro-Matic Products, Inc., Festo, Huntsman, ICO System, Jowat, O'Sullivan, Rockwell Automation, SEW Eurodrive, Siemens, Weber Manufacturing Technologies and Weco International, Inc.
To date, FRIMO has invested $6 million into the Wixom TechCenter and Daily expects to invest another $1.5 million over the next two years. A new state-of-the-art thermoforming machine with full IMG and In-Mold Grain Lamination (IMGL) capabilities, as well as a newly designed FRIMO Press Lamination press, are planned for 2014. Both offer low cost design options for luxury materials.
"These new investments will further expand our capabilities to debug, prove-out and service our complete line-up of tooling technologies," said Daily. "They will also provide our customers the opportunity on production style machines for plant personnel training, new product development and process optimization for programs currently in production."
