FRANKFURT – Sept 12, 2013: Renault was presented with five awards by the jury of the Automotive Brand Contest at the award ceremony held on September 10, the opening day of the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

Clio, Captur and ZOE received awards for their exterior styling, while the A110-50 concept car picked up an award in the ‘Concepts’ category.

The Renault stand concept, dubbed ‘The Bump’, also won an award in the Automotive Brand Contest after taking out a Red Dot Award earlier this year.

September 10, 2013 is a milestone in the history of Renault Design. At the award ceremony organised during the evening in Frankfurt by the German Design Council, Renault won five awards for three production models, one concept car and the stand concept premiered at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

The jury, made up of 10 independent members who are all design experts, presented awards in the ‘Exterior Volume Brand’ category to Clio, Captur and ZOE.

These three models have been on the market in Europe for less than a year and spearheaded the Renault brand’s new design policy.

Unveiled at the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix, the Alpine A110-50 also took out an award in the ‘Concepts’ category. The Alpine A110-50 was developed to mark the 50th anniversary of the Alpine A110.

Renault’s ‘The Bump’ stand concept, which was inaugurated at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, won an award in the ‘Architecture’ category, thereby acknowledging the successful cooperation between DGT Architects and Renault. Like ZOE, ‘The Bump’ won a Red Dot Award in July 2013.The concept takes its inspiration from a value which is common to all the vehicles on display: movement. The goal was to recreate the feeling of movement on the stand. The vehicles are exhibited in concentric circles around one or two ‘hills’ with turntables at the top. The vehicles can be viewed from every angle depending on where the visitor is standing.

The impression of movement created by this three-dimensional layout is enhanced by the floor covering and the coloured lighting in the ceiling, which features balls of light moving gently up and down while changing colour.

The new Renault stand concept is used at all the major motor shows around the world, including Geneva, Shanghai and Frankfurt.

The awards pay tribute to the work of Laurens van den Acker and his team since he became head of design at Renault in 2010.

Established in 2011 by the German Design Council, the Automotive Brand Contest is a leading international design contest. The Automotive Brand Contest has built up a global reputation as one of the most sought-after quality labels in design excellence.

The German Design Council was founded in 1953 by the German Parliament to reinforce design expertise in German industry.
