MELBOURNE – Sept 4, 2013: Mazda3 was Australia’s favourite car in August while CX-5 and Mazda2 both consolidated their position as segment best-sellers last month according to VFACTS figures released today.

With an August record of 9,825 new cars, SUVs and utilities sold, Mazda also secured its second-best ever monthly tally for a 10.5 per cent market share.

In a month supported by M-Day – Mazda’s one day, once a year sale; the August result is up almost 28 per cent compared to the same month last year.

Overall, Mazda has posted 70,637 new vehicle sales Year-to-Date (YTD) for a 9.3 per cent market share. It also maintained its place as one of the country’s top-three automotive brands and further consolidated its position as Australia’s number one full-line importer.

Mazda3 led the way with 4,188 August sales - 27,729 cars YTD - making it the most popular vehicle of any type in Australia for the fourth time this year.

The CX-5 SUV enjoyed one of its best months since launching in February 2012 with 1,914 sales in August to continue its reign as Australia favourite SUV.

The evergreen Mazda2 was another August sales winner with 1,380 finding homes last month. Having sold over 11,000 cars so far this year, Mazda2 increased the gap to its closest competitor and continues to be the country’s favourite light car.

With the recent announcement of a range upgrade - where Neo Sport now comes with 15-inch alloy wheels at no extra cost and Maxx Sport receives $1200 of free enhancements and a $760 price reduction - interest in Mazda2 is expected to remain high.

As sales continue to surge, BT-50 had its best August on record with 1,317 sales. Increased supply means BT-50 – with sales up 22 per cent YTD – is firmly on track to break its all-time annual sales record of 11,848 set in 2012.

In support, 669 All-New Mazda6s were sold in August. Mazda6 sales have increased by more than 30 per cent year-on-year and the stylish model is the county’s favourite mid-size import.
