Modus and Cellcontrol Partner to Proactively Combat Distracted Driving for Usage Based Insurance Participants

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA--Sept. 3, 2013: Modus, a full service insurance telematics provider, and CellcontrolTM, the world's leading technology to stop distracted driving, announced a technology and services partnership bringing distracted driving prevention solutions to the usage based insurance market. Available for consumer and commercial UBI programs today, the solution informs drivers of risky behavior, and blocks access to texting and other applications, in real-time, without impacting the battery life of their mobile devices.

"UBI solutions today are primarily focused on functions that are uninteresting to the average driver. They may get a discount, but little-to-no help when it comes to improving their or their teenagers' driving behavior," said Nathan George, VP of Technology at Modus. "Cellcontrol helps us change that by preventing activities that lead to accidents and fatalities."

Powered by patented non-pairing Bluetooth technology, Cellcontrol prevents drivers from inappropriately using their phones to text, email, browse the web, etc.

"Our priority is to protect drivers and their families when behind the wheel," said Robert Guba, CEO of Cellcontrol. "By integrating with Modus' full-service UBI solution, we have greater access to existing insurance programs and can reach more drivers, which in turns saves lives."

Brandon Johnson, CEO of Modus, believes; "The combination of our UBI solutions and Cellcontrol's distracted driving solution is a game changer for both drivers and insurance companies. It is no longer about data or discounts, it's about the positive impact this type of program has on public safety, our families, and also our economy."

The complete UBI offering is now available to all Modus and Cellcontrol customers for both consumer and commercial insurance programs.
