2014 Evolution: Affordable Rally-bred Performance
SYDNEY – Aug 9, 2013: Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited’s (MMAL) high performance vehicle, the Lancer Evolution, offers power, precision and performance. Loaded with standard features the ‘Evo’ continues to be the most exhilarating drive in the Mitsubishi range.
Powered by Mitsubishi’s inter-cooled turbo-charged 2.0-litre DOHC MIVEC engine, the Evolution generates a whopping 217kW of power at 6,500 rpm and 366Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm, offering peak performance and superb handling in all conditions. The Evolution line up is available in two variants, the entry level five-speed manual or the higher specified MR with Twin Clutch Sport Shift Transmission (TC-SST).
The Evolution contains all of the Lancer’s advanced safety features as standard including; Mitsubishi’s innovative Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body, which provides super strength cabin protection in the event of an accident; a raft of electronic safety features including Active Stability Control, Active Traction Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Distribution and Mitsubishi’s Brake Assist technology; and is fitted with three-point seatbelts with reminders, pretentioners and force limiters on the front, child restraint anchorage points and two ISOFIX child seat anchor points in the rear.
It embodies Mitsubishi’s sophisticated full-time Super All-Wheel Control System (S-AWC), proven over generations of rally development, utilising three independent systems working together to give you superior road handling.
The Active Centre Differential (ACD) determines your optimal torque split between the front and rear axles and works in three modes – tarmac, gravel and snow – to enable quicker control response for changes in road surfaces.
The range is equipped with the latest Mitsubishi’s LINK audio systems, offering hands-free Bluetooth connectivity with voice activation and streaming audio, all with steering wheel audio and phone controls for easier operation and optimum sound.
Evolution
Priced from $56,990, the entry level five-speed
manual variant, the Evolution, comes equipped with Mitsubishi’s
S-AWC: advanced all-wheel control, is fitted with Brembo brakes and carries
the high performance McPherson strut suspension.
The Evolution is based on the popular Lancer model gaining the Evo’s distinct exterior features of a large aluminium rear spoiler, side air dam, black air vents (bonnet and front fenders), dual chrome exhaust tail pipe, colour-coded electric door mirrors and door handles, halogen headlamps and 18” ENKEI alloy wheels.
Inside the Evolution receives partial leather RECARO front seats with seat heater slide and recline function, sports type leather wrapped steering wheel with audio and phone controls, leather bound gearshift knob and aluminium pedals.
The base model Evolution is also packed with everyday functional features including power windows – (front and rear) with auto up and down for driver, central door locking system with crash detection, immobiliser, security alarm with DataDot, dusk sensing headlamps, rain sensing wipers, cruise control with steering wheel controls, power door mirrors with electric fold control and a Smart Key, keyless operating system.
Equipped with Mitsubishi’s LINK system’s convenience of hands free Bluetooth® with voice activation and audio streaming, CD player with MP3 and AM/FM radio, iPod connectivity, USB connectivity playable through four speakers and two tweeters. All audio features are accessible through a 6.1-inch full colour display touch screen which also features a reversing camera interface in the display.
The Evolution five-speed manual can be further enhanced through the addition of the Evolution Performance Pack, RRP $3,000, which adds Brembo two piece type front disc brake, Bilstein front and rear shock absorbers, Eibach front and rear springs and 18-inch BBS forged alloy wheels for a sharp, aggressive look.
Evolution MR
Ready to race, the Evolution MR is $65,990 and
comes equipped with the latest rally-bred transmission technology. The Twin
Clutch Sport Shift Transmission (TC-SST) with steering wheel control
operates in three modes: Normal for day-to-day driving, Sport for quicker
acceleration and gear changes, and the ultimate choice for sporty driving
Super Sports Mode (S-Sport ).
With the same distinctive features as the entry-level Evolution, the MR comes with the performance pack fitted as standard which includes Brembo two piece type front disc brake, Bilstein front and rear shock absorbers, Eibach front and rear springs and 18-inch BBS forged alloy wheels.
It also gains some exterior styling points such as colour-coded air vents on the bonnet and front fenders, chrome belt line moulding, chrome grille surround and HID headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting System, headlamp washers and auto headlamp levelling.
Inside the MR gains leather seat facings on the RECARO front seats and Evolution chrome scuff plates.
The MR is fitted with the Mitsubishi Multi Communications System which has a 7” touch screen with satellite navigation 3D mapping and rear view camera interface and receives the top of the range Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio System with four speakers, four tweeters and a subwoofer.
