Audi's fire-breathing RS 6 Avant arrives in Australia
ULURU, AUSTRALIA – July 31, 2013: The first all-new Audi RS 6 Avant sports cars have arrived in Australia. Boasting a massive power output of 412 kW and 700 Nm of torque, this incredible performance car is available in Avant-body style only and joins the Audi RS 4 Avant as one of the company’s most aspirational products. It is the most powerful model built by Audi.
Priced from just $225,000*, the first customer arrivals of the Audi RS 6 Avant will be in October, and already, this outstanding new model is in hot demand.
“The Audi RS 6 Avant is unique in the Australian performance market. Offering phenomenal acceleration and dynamics, along with real-world versatility, the RS 6 Avant really is in a class of its own,” said Audi Australia’s Managing Director Andrew Doyle.
“The first customer cars will arrive in October however we already have a strong order bank, demonstrating that the RS 6 Avant’s status as the ultimate ‘everyday’ sports car is more relevant than ever to Australian luxury performance buyers.”
The twin-turbo V8 engine has a displacement of 3,993 cc, and delivers its 412 kW and a constant 700 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm. It is Audi’s most powerful model available and boasts an impressively sonorous engine note to set the pulse racing.
Positioned in the 90-degree vee between the two cylinder banks, a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers ensure that considerable torque is generated quickly. This large Avant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of up to 305 km/h.
Average fuel consumption is 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres – a whopping reduction of 30 percent compared with the previous model. This is partly due to the efficient cylinder on demand (COD) system – a first in any RS model - which temporarily switches off four cylinders during part-load operation. Active engine mounts apply targeted counterpulses to smooth out the minor vibrations that occur during these phases.
Power is transferred to the road via a sporty eight-speed tiptronic transmission and Audi’s signature quattro permanent all-wheel drive, which makes use of a centre differential to adjust torque delivery between the front and rear wheels and also a sport differential to actively distribute power between the rear wheels.
The high-performance RS adaptive air suspension lowers the vehicle body by 20 millimetres. It is managed by the Audi drive select dynamics system, as are the sport differential and optional dynamic steering, which adjusts the steering ratio to the vehicle’s speed. The driver can switch between several modes of operation. Audi offers the taut RS Sport suspension plus with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) as an alternative to the RS adaptive air suspension for ultimate performance.
The RS 6 Avant is a versatility leader, seating up to five passengers with ease, and with capacious boot space of up to 1,680 litres. Customers who are expected to own the mighty RS 6 Avant are looking for a particularly sporty premium vehicle in the business class, with a passion for technology and motor sport.
As expected of an Audi RS model, the RS 6 Avant comes equipped with an
extensive list of standard equipment, including:
