EAST BOSTON, MA--July 28, 2013: Good Sports, a national nonprofit organization, and GEICO teamed up to support East Boston Girls Softball by providing them with a variety of new softball equipment, including catchers' gear, bases, bats and cleats. Recently, this organization has seen a dramatic decline in funding but a very strong interest in participation from girls in the surrounding communities. This donation will help provide safe, reliable equipment and in turn create opportunities for more girls to play.

“It helps to have proper equipment on the field, too. We're pleased we have a chance to partner with Good Sports to help support East Boston Girls Softball.”

"Softball is a terrific sport to teach young girls about teamwork, commitment, character and sportsmanship," said Rick Hoagland, GEICO regional vice president. "It helps to have proper equipment on the field, too. We're pleased we have a chance to partner with Good Sports to help support East Boston Girls Softball."

"I'm thankful because grants like this give us the opportunity to continue providing this program to the girls in our community," said Kathy Orlando, president, East Boston Girls Softball. "Without the generosity we may not be able to provide this program to the girls."

The donation is part of an ongoing community partnership between Good Sports and GEICO that will help bring new equipment and resources to youth sports organizations in Massachusetts through 2014.

"Our goal is to ensure all kids have the opportunity to engage in sports and fitness and all the benefits that go along with those opportunities," said Christy Keswick, chief operating officer at Good Sports. We are excited to partner with GEICO to make this donation to East Boston Girls Softball as we believe this donation will give more kids a chance to participate. To date, our partnership with GEICO has generated over $63,000 in value for Massachusetts and impacted nearly 2,000 kids. We are thrilled GEICO continues to be committed to helping more kids get in the game."

GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) is a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies and is the third-largest private passenger auto insurance company in the United States. GEICO provides millions of auto insurance quotes to U.S. drivers annually. The company is pleased to serve more than 12 million private passenger customers and insures more than 18 million vehicles (auto & cycle).

Good Sports helps to lay the foundation for healthy, active lifestyles by providing athletic equipment, footwear, and apparel to disadvantaged young people nationwide. By partnering with sporting goods manufacturers, Good Sports is able to get the necessary equipment into the hands of the kids that need it most, giving them a chance to get in the game. Since 2003, Good Sports has provided over $9 million worth of equipment to over 1000 youth programs, impacting more than 675,000 kids.
