Touring With Maserati: The Cash & Rocket Tour Begins In Barcelona

BARCELONA – June 17, 2013: Maserati is proud to be participating in the second edition of the Cash & Rocket Tour, which started today in Barcelona. The Tour consists of 70 successful, philanthropic women getting behind the wheels of high powered, luxury and vintage automobiles, wrapped in red, with the aim of collecting funds for three non-profit organisations in Africa: Shine On Sierra Leone, Orphan Aid Africa in Ghana and Sumbandila in South Africa. Last year, over $250,000 was raised and this year’s goal is to exceed that figure.

A number of the ladies will be hitting the road in the luxury and style of a Maserati GranCabrio Sport; the perfect convertible for touring, with its four seats creating a spacious and comfortable environment for the long journey ahead. Experiencing the Maserati and driving from Barcelona to Cannes, then on to Florence and finally arriving in Rome, will be: Valentino Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri and her daughter Rachele, event planner and writer Yasmin Mills, sharing her drive with Lauren Kemp and Carolina Tong. Of course, Delfina Delettrez Fendi will be driving nothing less than the aptly matched designer Maserati: the GranCabrio Fendi.

The 35 teams got behind their wheels earlier this morning and began their first leg of the tour, the road from Barcelona to Cannes.

As if being drawn magnetically, the Maseratis will leave Cannes on Saturday 15th June and head with their drivers to Italy. After a short stop in Forte dei Marmi, Tuscany, the ladies will continue their journey in ultimate Italian style, driving their GranCabrio Sports and Fendi to Florence and displaying them in the magnificent setting of Piazza D’Ognissanti. Roberto and Eva Cavalli will then open the doors of their private residence for a dinner party with all of the Cash & Rocket women.

The grand finale of the tour will take place in Rome on Sunday June 16th where the drivers of Cash & Rocket will make their way to a luncheon at Valentino hosted by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, the extraordinary creative directors of the renowned fashion house. The tour will conclude at Hotel de Russie with a black-tie gala including dinner in the gardens of the hotel and a charity auction presided over by Italian television presenter Milly Carlucci.
