Global Rallycross to compete Today at X Games Barcelona

PR Newswire

BARCELONA, May 19, 2013 --  Global Rallycross will hold the second event of its 2013 season on Sunday, May 19, at 11am ET as part of X Games Barcelona. Viewers can tune into ESPN for live and exclusive coverage of the action.

The race marks the first time that Global Rallycross has ever raced in Europe, and the second time it has run outside of the United States, after a successful event at last month's X Games Foz do Iguacu in Brazil.

"I absolutely love Spain, especially Barcelona," said Ken Block, driver, Hoonigan Racing Division. "I'm stoked to be here, and stoked to be continuing with rallycross in the X Games."

Held on a nearly 1 km track that consists of both dirt and concrete, X Games Barcelona will host the first rallycross event in history to be run completely within the confines of a stadium setting. Barcelona's historic Olympic Stadium, home to the 1992 Summer Olympics, was selected as the venue in Barcelona to showcase the race.

"X Games is known for doing things bigger than anything else," said Tanner Foust, driver, OlsbergsMSE. "And the fact that it's in a stadium means it will certainly be in front of more eyeballs than most other rallycross races."

Global Rallycross combines the best aspects of circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition to deliver intense action in a fan-friendly environment.  Global Rallycross pits production-based, small cars against each other for door-to-door racing featuring elements such as dirt, asphalt and jumps. Drivers progress through a series of heat races to advance into a final race, where winner takes all.
