Highlights include reinforced pistons, low-weight crankshafts, an aluminium cylinder block and bearing mounts, and further optimisation of the cooling system, air supply and exhaust gas discharge system. Plus, the turbocharger is twinned with a generously sized intercooler. The twin turbocharger joins forces with petrol direct injection and variable valve control based on BMW Group’s VALVETRONIC technology, which optimises both the engine’s efficiency and its responsiveness.

The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman’s powerplant develops its maximum output of 160 kW at 6,000 rpm. Peak torque of 280 Nm is on tap between 1,900 and 5,000 rpm and can be increased to 300 Nm for short periods between 2,100 and 4,500 rpm using the overboost function opening the door to thrilling acceleration to which the standard fitted exhaust system provides a suitable stirring sound track.

The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman can be ordered as an option with a six-speed automatic gearbox as an alternative to the standard fitted six-speed manual.

The choice of gearbox has no effect on the sprinting power of the MINI John Cooper Works, sprinting from rest to 100 km/h in a trifling 6.9 seconds. The MINI JCW Paceman marries this thrilling performance with impressive economy consuming just 8 l of fuel per 100 km’s and emitting 186 grams of CO2 per kilometre. These figures increase slightly when optioned with the Automatic to 8.3 l/100 km’s and of 193 grams of CO2 per km.

The MINI John Cooper Works Paceman chassis technology has been optimised specially for this new model. The Sports suspension which has dynamically tuned damper and anti-roll bars and an extremely high-performance braking system are all key player in giving the its sky-high levels of driving fun.

And the likewise standard Sports button in the centre console allows the driver to tweak the engines responses and soundtrack, as well as the power assistance provided by the steering. If the Automatic transmission is fitted, pressing the Sport button also quickens up shift times.

Standard specification for this potent new model is certainly representative of its positioning within the MINI range and naturally includes the JCW Aero Kit, Anthracite roof lining, JCW sport leather steering wheel, Handbrake and gearshift gaiters with red stitching, Floor mats with red contrasting seams, JCW door sill finishers, Anthracite instrument dials, interior and cockpit surfaces in Piano black, Sports exhaust system and 18” Twin-Spoke light-alloy wheels in Burnished Black with run-flat safety tyres.
