Award-winning Audi A3 Sportback to arrive in May, priced from $35,600
ZETLAND, AUSTRALIA – Marc 7, 2013: The acclaimed all-new Audi A3 Sportback is set to arrive in Australian dealerships in May this year. At launch, buyers in the premium compact segment will benefit from unparalleled levels of build quality, safety, fit and finish, along with equipment from the luxury class, at razor-sharp pricing. A range of value-added packages will allow customers to bundle the most popular options, at very attractive prices.
When it was first launched in 1996, the Audi A3 was the first premium segment compact vehicle. Worldwide, 2.7 million units have since been sold.
When the third-generation Audi A3 Sportback arrives in May 2013, it will offer the highest level of quality in its class, yet the starting price for the A3 Sportback Attraction 1.4 TFSI 90 kW S tronic will be $35,600 (MLP). The new range is expected to continue the sales success of its predecessor models in Australia.
Full pricing for Australia will be confirmed at launch, however customers will have the choice of two petrol TFSI and two diesel TDI powerplants that deliver best-in-class fuel efficiency and performance - qualities that Audi is well-known for.
In addition to the 1.4 TFSI 90 kW S tronic entry-level model, a new 1.8 TFSI engine that develops 132 kW will take its place at the top of the TFSI range. Two diesel engines, the 77kW 1.6 TDI and the 110kW 2.0 TDI will complete the initial A3 Sportback line-up. The sporty S tronic dual-clutch transmission will feature as standard equipment on all A3 Sportback models. A manual gearbox option will be available through special order.
Audi is also developing a range of cleverly-bundled options packages for the new A3 Sportback, which are designed to match the needs of customers who want to additionally equip their vehicle with features that enhance comfort, technology, design, or sporty interior and exterior styling options. For instance, the new MMI Navigation plus and revolutionary MMI touch control system will be available in a Technik package, with other features, for under $3,000.
In the last quarter of 2013, a new quattro model will be added to the range – a choice not offered by competitors of the Audi brand. In addition, Audi will also introduce a highly efficient 1.4 TFSI Cylinder on Demand (CoD) engine in the A3 Sportback. Audi Connect, an interactive connectivity system that includes WLAN hotspot and Google Earth functionality among an increasing number of intelligent technologies, is also planned for market introduction in the new A3 at this time.

In January, the Audi A3 Sportback was named “Car of the Year” at the annual “What Car? Awards”. The jury cited the combination of outstanding handling characteristics and superb workmanship as the reasons why the new A3 Sportback triumphed over its rivals. Cabin quality, in particular, was praised as the highest ever seen in a small family car. The Audi A3 Sportback was also crowned Small Family Car of the Year by “What Car?”.
The Euro NCAP consortium has awarded the new Audi A3 the maximum five-star rating for passive crash safety. The results for adult occupant protection in a frontal, rear, and side impact as well as child safety and pedestrian protection make the new Audi A3 one of the safest cars in its class.
