AUBURN HILLS, MI--Dassault Systemes (Paris:DSY) (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), the 3DEXPERIENCE Company, world leader in 3D design software, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, announced its sponsorship of the Motorcity Automotive Industry Night (MAIN) Event, where industry innovators and student designers are recognized for their contributions to automotive excellence. This year's event, to be held at the Detroit Orchestra Hall on Sunday evening, January 13, 2013, will honor the Global Industry Executive of the Year, as well as the North American Innovator of the Year. Additionally, the high school student winner of the Ford Motor Company and Lawrence Technological University-sponsored "Designing for the Future" competition will also be announced. In addition to being an automotive awards ceremony, this invitation-only event serves as a welcome and homecoming to Detroit for automotive professionals, especially those attending the North America International Auto Show.

“We are excited to support and develop this event, which provides a unique opportunity to create synergies between industry and academia and promote industry excellence”

Dassault Systemes has been a founding supporter of the Main Event, the brainchild of Lawrence Tech's Director of Transportation Design Program, Keith Nagara. The Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE platform's CATIA application has been at the forefront of 3D vehicle design since 1982 and continues as the automotive vehicle design application of choice, with many vehicles worldwide designed in CATIA. This application also serves as the backbone of the Lawrence Tech transportation design curriculum.

The MAIN Event features designs by students in the transportation design program, model car exhibits, and stations for viewing Dassault Systemes' latest 3D design software. "We are excited to support and develop this event, which provides a unique opportunity to create synergies between industry and academia and promote industry excellence," said Phil Borchard, CATIA Shape and Styling Specialist, Dassault Systemes.

Attendees can try the CATIA Natural Sketch solution, which provides a breakthrough 3D sketching experience that joins together the intuitiveness of creative 2D painting gestures with the power of accurate, realistic 3D modeling. Users can see their 2D sketches transformed into 3D surfacing instantly, enabling innovation and adding huge efficiencies to the vehicle design.
