SYDNEY – Dec 14, 2012: Ford Australia’s tough truck, the Ranger pickup, has just become even tougher.

Ford Australia has now lifted the pickup utility’s towing capacity from 3350kg to 3500kg on TDCi-powered 4x2 Hi-Rider and 4x4 models, making it equal class-leading in the segment. Gross Combination Mass has also increased by 50kg.

“Our customers love the Ranger and it’s proven incredibly popular among both city and rural buyers,” according to David Katic, General Marketing Manager. “However, we wanted to give customers an even tougher truck that they can truly rely on for some of their more demanding towing needs.”

Since its launch in October 2010, Ford has sold more than 15,000 Rangers and the pickup continues to grow in popularity.

It has won a host of awards for its design and technology, most recently the coveted 2012 International Pick-Up of the Year award and Overall Commercial Vehicle of the Year in the UK Fleet Van Awards. Ford was also awarded the title of Green Manufacturer of the Year to make it a triple success for the company.

Ranger has also secured some other notable endorsements. Last year it won the Drive Safety Innovation Award for its comprehensive safety package. The pickup also made history by being the first-ever pickup to achieve a maximum 5-star rating under the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) crash test protocol.

As further proof that the Australian designed and engineered Ranger is one of the country’s toughest trucks, the towing changes combine with proven smart technologies, outstanding 5-star safety, excellent fuel efficiency and high standards of quality and comfort across the range.

Impressive capability
All 21 Ranger models, including the range-topping Wildtrak, have been engineered and tested to face the toughest challenges in more than 180 markets globally. Ranger’s towing and water-wading capabilities are among some of the best in its segment.

Apart from the capacity to tow up to 3500 kilograms (TDCi-powered 4x2 Hi-Rider and 4x4 models only), the 4x4 and 4x2 Hi-Rider models also have the capability to wade through up to 800 millimetres of water even when fully laden.

Ranger also boasts outstanding payload capacity of 1528 kilograms on the 2.2 TDCi-powered 4x2 Single Cab Chassis Hi-Rider, as well as excellent ground clearance of up to 237 millimetres (4x4 and 4x2 Hi-Rider models).

Ranger is offered in three versatile bodystyles – Single Cab, Super Cab and Double Cab – and comes with a choice of petrol engine and two powerful and economical Duratorq TDCi diesel engines, and with a choice of 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains.
