Vauxhall Plant Leaders Offer Inspirational Approach To Manufacturing At Birmingham Skills Show
LUTON, UNITED KINGDOM – Nov 15, 2012: Vauxhall Motors top plant and business leaders will share their passion for the world of manufacturing with students from various secondary schools this Friday at Birmingham’s Skills Show.
Mike Wright, Plant Director at Vauxhall’s Luton Vivaro van plant and Jamie Craig, General Assembly manager at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port Astra plant, will introduce students to the world’s largest automotive organisation, General Motors, which Vauxhall is an integral part of as the operation’s fourth largest market. Both leaders will follow a hands-on and straight from the heart approach, sharing their respective, breathtaking experiences within the competitive and fast moving manufacturing arena.
Faye Johnson, Talent Acquisition Manager, said: “This is going to be a truly inspiring session running under the title of ‘Discover Automotive Manufacturing: Design and Build’ on the Manufacturing Stage from 11.20am this Friday. I hope many student groups will take this one-off opportunity for a deep dive into manufacturing made accessible through first hand experiences from Mike and Jamie.”
Providing insight to the support functions within the manufacturing environment are Anthony Deady, Global Service IT and Alexandra Pharaoh, HR Manager Vauxhall/Opel IT under the title ‘Discover Automotive Manufacturing: Sell and support’. Anthony and Alex will expel the myths of IT and lead the audience to an exploration of the latest methods and technologies available in manufacturing. The journey will begin at 15:20.
The Skills Show is set to be the UK’s biggest skills and careers event of the year, highlighting the vital importance of skills in order to engender economic growth and aiming to inspire engineers, fashion designers and web developers of tomorrow.
As many as 100,000 visitors are expected to join the one-day event on Friday, 16th November, at the NEC in Birmingham.
Vauxhall’s Luton and Ellesmere Port plants are consistently striving for best in class status, competing internally and externally. Their extraordinary achievements recently won each plant production of new generation models due to be launched in 2014 – Luton plant – and 2015 – Ellesmere Port plant, respectively. Both plants are currently preparing the launch of those models which includes the installation of new facilities and robots whilst running the day-to-day production of current Vivaro van and Astra models.
