SAN DIEGO--October 8, 2012SmartDrive Systems, a leader in driving performance solutions that reduce collisions and improve fuel efficiency, announced today several technology developments and feature enhancements to its in-demand SmartDrive Safety and SmartDrive Fuel solutions, continuing its technology leadership in video and driving analytics across the transportation and trucking industry.

“SmartDrive has developed a game-changing approach to improving safety and fuel use”

SmartDrive uses a combination of video analysis and predictive analytics to provide fleets complete insight into safety and fuel waste. A personalized training program arms fleets with a team of experts who review performance, identify key areas of focus and recommend safety and fuel efficiency improvements. Using a combination of online services and in-cab tools, fleets can immediately realize sustained, consistent improvements in driving performance and skills.

"SmartDrive has developed a game-changing approach to improving safety and fuel use," said SmartDrive CEO Steve Mitgang. "With the growing numbers of trucking fleets achieving dramatic material results using the SmartDrive driving improvement platform -- up to a 50% collision reduction and up to 15% increase in fuel efficiency --our customers are saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in operating expenses annually, while protecting their drivers and the motoring public."

Building on its industry-leading platform, SmartDrive releases several new features at the American Trucking Associations' annual Management Conference & Exhibit in Las Vegas:

  • SmartDrive Mobile: real-time access for drivers to individual vehicle and driver performance data for self-assessment and peer-to-peer competitive standings.
  • Enhanced Video Analysis: detailed operator and vehicle performance data plus instant video of fuel-wasting maneuvers and events --- includes throttle, brake, RPM, and engine load information as well as excessive idling, idling with Power Take Off and trip stops.
  • Crash Triggered Events: sensors that report crash data up to 96G's, which allows fleets to instantly access crash event videos -- providing fleets with unequivocal proof of driver exoneration and immediate response to insurance claims processing -- an industry first in combining video data in a driving performance solution.

"There is a direct correlation between driving maneuvers and safety," said Danny Pack, SVP of Risk Management, Loomis Armored, US, LLC. "SmartDrive helps us understand what is happening on the road, predict where the greatest opportunities for improvement are and empower our drivers to improve their own performance with easy-to-use tools. At the end of the day, we want our drivers to return home safely to their families, and SmartDrive helps them get there."
