Mercedes-Benz dealer Enza unveils stunning New Actros

The revolutionary new Mercedes-Benz Actros premium long-haul tractor unit range was the star attraction for some of the North-West's leading road transport operators, at a launch event staged by leading dealer Enza.

The event, held at the Oulton Park race circuit in Cheshire, gave guests their first chance to put the striking vehicle - recently voted International Truck of the Year - through its paces on UK roads.

Developed from a blank sheet of paper, New Actros is the ultimate premium truck for long-distance transport. From the outset, designers and engineers were determined to provide the best possible comfort, driving dynamics, safety, productivity and operating economy, as well as a sweeping range of cab sizes, engine ratings and options, allowing customers to tailor vehicles perfectly for any application.

The current Actros holds the Guinness World Record for fuel economy at 40 tonnes gvw, but on-the-road tests have shown that the new model is a remarkable seven per cent more frugal when specified to meet Euro 5 emissions regulations, while even the ultra-clean Euro 6 version shows a four per cent improvement.

Following refreshments, the 81 guests took turns to head out on a 17-mile test drive in four demonstrator trucks provided for the event. Carefully chosen to simulate a variety of typical driving conditions, the route included both single- and dual-carriageway roads. Each truck made 10 journeys, so a total of almost 700 miles was covered on the day!

On each trip, the mpg figure achieved was recorded and at the end of the day the winner was Craig Stewart, Logistics Manager of Widnes-based Ray Stewart Haulage, who averaged an impressive 11.4mpg in the 510hp V8-powered Actros 2551, and 11.8mpg in the 450hp Actros 2545 model. Between journeys, guests also enjoyed 'hot laps' of the Oulton Park circuit in two-seater racing cars piloted by professional drivers.

Mark May, Transport Manager of food waste and animal by- products recycling specialist John Pointon & Sons, summed up the feelings of many when he said: "It was a great day, very informative and enjoyable, and superbly organised. The New Actros is simply brilliant. The driving experience was fantastic and if the fuel performance figures are to be believed it will be an unbeatable all-round package. The previous Actros is a very good truck - but this new one is a huge step forward."

Enza is a leading member of the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealer network. It sells and supports the manufacturer's award-winning range, which extends from the mighty Actros to the compact and stylish Vito van, as well as the popular Fuso Canter family of light trucks, from sites in Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Trafford and Warrington.
