SAE International Appoints Andrew Smart to Head Industry Relations and Business Development

WARRENDALE, PA--April 11, 2012: In the continuing effort to enhance business relationships with mobility engineering executives, SAE International has named Andrew Smart its new Director of Industry Relations and Business Development.

In this role, Mr. Smart will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to enhance SAE International's effectiveness at meeting the needs of the mobility industry collectively and within the specific industry sectors served. Leading a team of industry subject matter experts, Mr. Smart will strengthen the interface between SAE International and industry executives; advance existing and identify new, high-value product offerings; and develop entirely new business lines for the Society.

Mr. Smart joins SAE International from Ricardo Inc., where he served as Vice President, Business Development and Marketing and a member of their Executive Leadership Team. In a career spanning nearly 30 years, Mr. Smart also worked for AVL Powertrain Engineering where he held the post of Director of Sales and Marketing. Prior to that, he held commercial and technical positions with Tickford Engelhard, LLC (now part of BASF); Perkins Technology; and DAF (now part of Paccar), United Kingdom.

British-born Smart holds a bachelor of engineering degree with commendation. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a Member of SAE International since 1997, and is a naturalized U.S. citizen.
